Maun Comes Alive With #TagMaun Movement!!

The theme is “Promoting Cultural Tourism” and our local artists have started a movement #TagMaun, as a starting point in their journey. From poets, photographers, painters and singers, the goal is to turn Maun into a tourist destination, and not just the ‘Gateway to the Okavango Delta’ as it is currently known.

The term ‘TAG’ to the artists means to mark, and so they are painting walls around Maun, and through their art, they are highlighting all the wonderful things that make Maun unique. We had a chat with one of the artists, Elijah; ” Our goal is to paint fifteen walls and we have already painted five. Every mural tells a story, from our river and its people, to how we are all connected to conservation, to encouraging the youth to have a voice. We are so excited to be able to do this and to have the platform to express ourselves. We hope to inspire the community to join us in promoting our town and generating income from the multi cultural diversity we have here. It is time we take advantage of the many talents we have and show the world what we have to offer .”

The #TagMaun movement is underway and we all need to be a part of it as a community to promote our town. To see some of their work, visit the Nhabe Musuem and get Inspired.
